Are AI Chatbots Safe for Kids? Four Real Risks — and How We Answer Them

Most AI chatbots were built for adults. Here are the four risks that matter for children, and the design decisions WisoraAI made to close each one.

Roughly two out of three teenagers now use an AI chatbot, and many use one every day — but only about a third of parents know it is happening. That gap, not the technology itself, is where the danger lives.

General-purpose chatbots were designed for adults. Their terms of service often exclude minors, yet almost none of them offer real parental controls or age-appropriate answers. Below are the four risks parents ask us about most, and what a chat app built for children can actually do about each one.

1. The answer itself is unsafe

An adult-facing model will explain almost anything if asked the right way. For a child, that is the whole problem.

In WisoraAI, every answer is produced under strict rules written separately for ages 7–9, 10–12 and 13–15 — and then inspected a second time by an entirely separate AI system that reviews both the question and the answer before your child ever sees it. Two independent layers, so a mistake by one is caught by the other. When neither is certain, the message is blocked rather than delivered.

2. Parents cannot see what happened

Screen-time apps and network filters cannot read inside an AI conversation. They show that a chat app was opened, not what was said.

WisoraAI takes the opposite approach: the parent panel shows blocked messages with their category and timestamp, and ordinary conversation summaries. The blocked ones tell you what was attempted; the ordinary ones tell you what your child is curious about. Nothing is hidden from you.

3. Children’s data leaves the device

Voice features usually mean uploading a child’s recorded voice to a server.

Ours does not. Speech is converted to text on the phone or tablet itself, so no audio recording ever exists to store or leak. There is also no photo upload at all — we cannot control what a child might photograph, so we chose not to have the feature.

4. Unlimited, unsupervised use

Endless AI companionship is not a goal worth optimising for. Every plan uses monthly credits, and parents set a daily message limit per child, alongside a word filter and an approved-websites list for search.

Safety is not a setting in WisoraAI. It is the architecture.
